Redlands City Art

Back to my day in Redlands for a moment. Lots of beautiful things to see (besides the clocks, the library, and the Lincoln Memorial Shrine.

Here is the newly-restored Millard Sheets mosaic titled “Redlands Heritage.” The building was originally a Home Savings and Loan, but now there is a restaurant in that space.

Like other streets with umbrellas which decorate (as this one in Zürich), Redlands has Umbrella Alley with cute shops and other artworks.

There are also many murals throughout the downtown. I spotted this one in an empty lot near the freeway.

Look Up! Exhibit at the Art Museum

The current exhibit at the Claremont Museum of Art features umbrellas, retirees, and hope. The artist Elizabeth Turk (a Scripps alumna) used brightly-colored umbrellas with the residents of San Antonio Gardens to create a kaleidoscopic movie, as well as still photographs. Residents wrote messages of hope on post-it notes. You can see some of the movie that is playing at the exhibition at the above link. Another video shows the participants talking about how much this experience meant to them, especially during the pandemic.
