Sour Grass

img_5052The plentiful January rains have gone for now leaving the earth nice and damp. With the temps slightly rising and the sun’s warming, the sour grass has decided it’s time to start blooming.

In Unseen Suburbia, Johnson devotes a chapter to urban edible weeds. While one might not fill up on yellow oxalis/wood sorrel, it seems that most people leave this weed happily growing in their yards. Children like to pick the long stem and chew on the bottom for its sour flavor. Maybe some adults do, too.

All this while we look at snow on the mountains. Shhhh, don’t tell anybody, or everybody will want to come live here…
