We are still in the throes of decluttering, and this month our donation went to the local thrift store, The Economy Shop. Located in the Claremont Village, this little space packs a big punch. I arrived at opening time on Wednesday, and already there were four people outside waiting to find a bargain.
Founded in 1933 by a group of Red Cross and church volunteers, this store has been continuously running since it opened. Nearly 50 smiling volunteers keep the place attractively organized. Most of the proceeds are donated to local charities such as Inland Valley Hope Partners, Inland Hospice, Project Sister, CLASP and Uncommon Good. In 2012 that amount was just over $35,000.
The shop closes its doors for a summer and winter break.
